My Story

About Me

My background in sociology and my affinity for analysis and tech led me to UX -- but not right away.

I started my career as a legislative aide on Capitol Hill, then worked for many years in government relations for an association and a youth development nonprofit. In between, I worked in sales at an internet start-up focused on grassroots mobilization.

But partisanship and gridlock made it hard to see progress on issues I cared about. So I decided to look for a field with more opportunity to see results from my work. I found UX from talking to people in my network, and signed up for the 10-week General Assembly UXDi course, which brought me here. I have particular interest in user research, user flows, IA, and testing. Knowledge gained from my first career informs my work.

My favorite summer job was as a National Park Service ranger on the Freedom Trail in Boston. I enjoy public speaking, and I love stories about America's fight for Independence.

In my spare time, I am a coach for the Silver Bullets, a Lego Robotics team of six middle school girls from Maryland. The girls build and program an autonomous robot to navigate through a table top course. They had a great 2014-15 season, coming in 2nd in their qualifier tournament and making it to the state championship.

My passion, and I believe my strength, is talking to people, learning their perspectives, and applying what I learn to get your message across.
